About the map
The Earthquake and Services Map shows locations of essential services, operational information such as closed roads and bridges, and aftershock information. It is updated regularly.
How to use the map
- Information on the map is grouped into layers. To hide or show a layer, select or clear its check box in the table of contents on the left of the map.
- To display a layer’s legend, which shows what each icon indicates, move your mouse over the layer’s entry in the table of contents.
- To zoom in, double-click on the map, or drag the slider bar up.
- To zoom out, drag the slider bar down.
- To move the map around (panning), use your mouse to drag the map.
You may need to zoom in to see the content of the map layers.

By default, the map includes all of the layers. If you only need to see specific content, use the links below. You may need to zoom-in to see the content of the map layer.

Earthquake and Services Map on your mobile
View the Earthquake and Services Map on your smartphone.
You can view the locations of essential services, operational information such as closed roads and bridges, and aftershock information on your smartphone. Use the “i” button to select your route and the compass button to show your current location. Phones currently supported are:
- iOS on the iPhone
- Android 2.2 native browser
- Blackberry Torch (6.0) native browser

- Priority Sites:

- EOC and ECC
- Major Hardware Store
Operational Information 
The Operational Information layer shows:
- Bridge Status
- Road Closures
- CBD Cordon Area
Shared Social Content
These layers shows information contributed by the general public.
YouTube videos
This layer includes videos that have been uploaded to YouTube.com and tagged as being related to the earthquake.
Flickr photos
This layer includes images that have been uploaded to Flickr.com and tagged as being related to the earthquake.
